At Solar2, community support is not just a choice; it's a passion. When our Project Manager, Harry Whitaker, suggested sponsoring his football team Glastonbury FC, we jumped at the opportunity!
Meet Harry Whitaker
Harry, a valued part of the Solar2 family for 18 months and based in the Wells office in Somerset, brings a wealth of experience in developing solar PV projects. Armed with a postgraduate certificate in Geographic Information System (GIS), Harry applies innovative approaches to developing renewable energy projects.
Harry shared, "I've been playing for Glastonbury Football Club for 12 years. To keep our club thriving, we need sponsors. When the opportunity arose this year, I approached Richard Morgan, Solar2's Development Director, who also lives in the local area. He was incredibly enthusiastic and saw it as a fantastic way for the company to support the local community."
Richard's Perspective
Richard commented, "I'm delighted to sponsor Glastonbury Football Team. Having lived in the area for many years, having the opportunity to support a local team is fantastic. They're a great community asset, and without local business support, they'd struggle. "
About the Team
While Glastonbury is renowned for its world-famous festival, the local football team is gaining its own fame. Founded in 1880, Glastonbury FC boasts a rich history in the local and wider community, with fans worldwide eager for a Glastonbury FC football shirt!
The team has had some great successes including reaching the FA Cup first round, playing against Exeter City.
Beyond Football
Glastonbury FC is more than just their football team. Each year, they participate in Movember, raising funds for Prostate Cancer and men's health. The players also raise money for local causes like Isaacs Army, supporting muscular dystrophy, and other community charities.
Harry's Seasonal Aspirations
Harry expressed, "We're a great group of players, and I am thankful Glastonbury FC give me the space to socialise, compete and ultimately provide an environment I am happy in. Thanks to Solar2 for sponsoring us; I'm proud to work for a company who actively support the local community."
